Master Your Retirement

It takes 10,000 hours to master something. Why not master retirement?

We spend much of our working life dreaming and planning for retirement. But, really, shouldn’t we be practicing?

What do we plan to do when we retire? Travel, fly fish, volunteer, play golf. What we should be doing is trying to fit that in now - well before we retire. It makes no difference if we’re a few years from retirement or decades.

The key is to schedule in more tennis, a Broadway show, a nearby hike or a visit with family and friends. You’ve heard it before, “No one ever says at the end of their life that they wish they worked more.”

Spending time “practicing retirement” will allow you to discover what it is you’d like to do more of. Check things off your “bucket list” while you’re at it - long weekend travel, kayaking, winter camping or even a cooking class.

That way when we are ready, not only will we have mastered the art of retirement, we’ll have made the most out of getting there.

You know you need the “practice.” What are you waiting for?
